Dalia Carella Dance Collective

Dalia Carella Dance Collective (DCDC), the primary program of Dance Fusion Arts, is a dance theater company that concentrates in global fusion. Dalia Carella founded DCDC in 2001 to fulfill her large-scale vision of fusing traditional and contemporary forms on a theatrical scale. As DCDC’s work evolves, it continues to transcend labels, through stagecraft and contemporary methods.

Since its inception, the Collective has welcomed members from the entire range of the dance spectrum, of all ages, and from a variety of cultural backgrounds. From African to Japanese, Mexican to Armenian and more, ranging in age from 23 to above, DCDC is a group open to and inspired by the heritage, interests and experiences of its members. Together, DCDC is more than the sum of its parts.

Fundamental to the Collective’s mission are educational residencies and workshops that enable us to share our creative process and knowledge of world dance with universities, theaters and the dance community at large across the U.S. and abroad. Through our programs and performances, DCDC strives to attract and engage a diverse audience, and take them on a journey to seek a greater understanding of blending different cultural dances together into one global community of the arts.

Experience

Since 2001, DCDC has performed in presented productions, a variety of showcases, festivals and self-productions at venues throughout New York City, across the country, and even in Japan.  A sampling of DCDC’s performances includes:

  • Transparency - From the Ancient to the Avant-garde at HERE Arts Center in New York City in November 2002

  • DCDC and Dance Infinity Concert: the Lucille Lortel Theater in 2004

  • In Search of a Goddess: Inspirations of the Divine Enchantress Ruth St. Denis in June 2004 Off-Broadway at The Duke on 42nd Street Theater, and alongside Adelphi’s College’s dance and theater program as part of Adelphi’s 70 year tribute to Ruth St. Denis in 2008

  • Other theater performances in 2005 included, the Arts at St. John in Miami, FL for the Women’s Empowerment Festival and at The America Theater, Hampton, VA

  • Cabaret de la Nuit - Theatre du Bizarre et Surrealiste at the New Lafayette Cabaret Theater in 2006

  • As part of Lori Bellilove’s The Red Thread in 2007 at the Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater, The Joan Weill Center for Dance in NYC

  • RiHla, a Contemporary Nomadic Journey as a work in progress at Dance New Amsterdam (2007), PS122 (2008), and La Mama ETC’s International Dance Festival (2008)

  • Share – a global fusion dance concert – The Great Hall Kudan Kaikan, Tokyo, Japan, 2009

  • Shakti - The Dance New Amsterdam Theater (DNA), 2010

  • DCDC’s Ten Year Retrospective, featuring premiere La Isla Perdida and unique repertory from the past 10 years, at The Dance New Amsterdam Theater (DNA), 2011

  • DCDC's 2015 NYC Fall Season "SHE" at the Muriel Schulman Theater, Brooklyn, featuring their NYC Premier "The Abduction of Genoveffa."
