Ruth St. Denis Retrospect - October 14-19, 2008
Adelphi College, Long Island, NY
The Dalia Carella Dance Collective (DCDC) has been invited by Adelphi College to perform with Adelphi's dance and theater departments, the entire off-Broadway production of "In Search of a Goddess - Inspirations of the Divine Enchantress Ruth St. Denis." I will be working closely with Adelphi's dance department, casting the dancers to perform my works with DCDC for the upcoming "In Search" production. This is a great opportunity for DCDC members to help assist me in working with the college dance and theater departments as well.
Adelphi is paying special homage to Ms. Ruth because in 1938, she founded their Dance Program, which was the first dance program ever established at an American college at that time. There will be seven performances as part of the retrospect. Jacobs Pillow will be assiting Adelphi College in many areas of this historic event. Ms. Ruth's costumes will be on display courtesy of Jacobs Pillow, especially one of my favorite, her original "Peacock Costume". Tapes of some of her interviews and rare footage of her dances will be shown in a room designated by the college for people's viewing. I am very honored to once again dance the role of Ms. Ruth, have my Dance Collective and special guests be part of this retrospect, and work with Adelphi's dance and theater departments. Stay tuned....
